International: Booking Website Planning to Lay-off a Number of its Employees Around the World

Booking Holding Company announced its intention to lay off 25 % of its employees around the world due to reduced travel demand, because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The company, which employs about 4.000 people around the world, said the proposed layoffs in its unit would begin in September, after the company ended its consultations with labor councils, employee representatives and other related organizations.

Spokesperson from the company said in a statement that: “the COVID-19 crisis has devastated the travel industry, and we are still feeling the impact as travel demands continue to drop dramatically”.

“While we have done a lot to save as many jobs as possible, we believe that we must restructure our company to match our expectations for the future of travel”, the spokesperson added in the same statement.

It is noteworthy that the company owns a number of reservation sites on the Internet that have been affected by the pandemic, including Booking.com, Kayak, Priceline and OpenType.
