The General Federation of Palestinian Trade Unions announced the first statistic process concerned with workers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which was the loss of 50.000 Palestinian workers to their jobs after large layoffs have affected various sectors and professions due to the state of closure that was caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Federation also announced that its legal departments in various governorates have received hundreds of complaints, especially from those working in the daily and construction sector, tourism services, hotels, restaurants, halls and beauty salons.
The Federation called for finding a strategy to save and support these sectors, following the Coronavirus outbreak, which is now threatening all economic sectors to collapse.
The Federation also called upon the International Labor Organization (ILO) and other international labor federations to contribute to solving the workers problem.
The Federation called on as well the Ministry of Labor, the Chambers of Commerce and the Employers’ Union to cooperate to create a social dialogue space for this social protection law, calling on every worker who has been laid off from work or is on unpaid leave, to contact its affiliated union in order to solve the matter of concern problem.
