Bahrain: Due to Summer Season, Prohibition of Work at Noon

ThevBahraini Ministry of Labor and Social Development Decision No. 39 of the year 2013 prohibiting work from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. went into effect on Sunday, June 21.

 

This decision aims to protect workers and ensure their safety from the risks of heat stress, sunstroke and various summer diseases, and to reduce occupational accidents, during this period of the year which witnesses a rise in temperatures in Bahrain.

 

The Ministry announced that the rate of commitment of private sector establishments during the past years to this decision is considered satisfactory, as the average commitment rate reached 98%, and at the same time it stressed that the Ministry will not tolerate monitoring violations and taking legal measures against violators, while stressing that repeating the violation will double the penalty as stipulated by the Ministerial Resolution.

 

It is important to note that the decision stipulates that anyone who violates its provisions shall be punished with the penalties stipulated in Article (192) of the National Labor Law promulgated by Law No. (36) of 2012, which states that anyone who violates any of the provisions of Article (15) and the decisions issued in implementation thereof shall be punished by imprisonment for a period not exceeding three months, and a fine of no less than 500 Dinars, and no more than a thousand dinars, or one of these two penalties.
