Almost 1500 workers protested in front of the headquarters of the National Earth Company, “Cement Seven”, in protest against the management’s decision to close down the company and dismiss the workers due to the suspension of work in the quarry since December 2019 as well as the failure of the relevant ministries to allow the company to exploit the main sections.
To draw authorities’ attention, workers blocked the road leading to the company’s headquarters, asking for permission for the company to use the main sections to restore their livelihood in light of an unprecedented economic crisis that Lebanon has been experiencing since the end of last year.
The situation seems likely to further escalate, given the state of silence that the Lebanese authorities have chosen regarding this sit-in.
It is noteworthy that the company employs approximately 1500 workers directly and more than 3000 indirectly namely truckers and machinery drivers from different regions of the country.
