We celebrate the blessed Eid Al-Fitr holiday this year, as we face a pandemic that has broken all borders, stormed all spaces and became the final ruler in all kinds of policies and throughout the world.
Indeed, this pandemic has revealed an international deficiency and confusion in dealing with it, it has nonetheless given us a space to follow the battles and sacrifices that workers have outlined in letters of gold.
We have all seen the people lining up in applause for doctors and nurses while they are in the first line of confrontation with the virus.
We have seen workers voluntarily putting themselves in self-quarantine and isolating themselves in their factories to make large numbers of protective medical masks. We were overwhelmed with joy seeing Ambulances’ drivers’ raising the victory sign from their windows. However, we were also overwhelmed with tears seeing the pictures of the medical staff martyrs who lost their lives in the fight against the pandemic. We also felt sad hearing about the wages’ reduction for regular workers.
Today we have the right to be proud of our sacrifices as workers and to be proud of the urge of our unions to volunteer to combat the pandemic and its emergence as a good will force for our societies.
The pandemic has demonstrated the tremendous value of unions to its people and deepened its responsibilities in defending workers facing the danger of losing their jobs and their source of livelihood.
Our dedication to our workers will not be shaken, nor will we give up their rights to a decent life and decent work.
Happy Eid to all Arab workers
May it be filled with many blessings for you and your families
