The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) has issued a call to the international community to intensify its pressure to confront the Israeli plan to annexate new Palestinian lands.
“The government of Israel, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, wants to move forward with the annexation before the US elections, because it fears that the change of the American administration will put an end to this terrifying and dangerous plan. Today, the international community must exert all pressure”, said Sharan Peru, Secretary-General of ITUC.
“The proposed annexation plan is a flagrant violation of international law unilaterally and void the prospects for real negotiations leading to the achievement of the two-state solution, on the basis of the United Nations Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338 and this plan cannot be allowed to move forward”, Peru said.
The plan, backed by Donald Trump, has come under heavy criticism from his opponent in the election, Joe Biden, and the end of US support will be a major blow to Netanyahu's strategy, who has publicly stated that the Palestinians must admit this as we who dictate security bases on the whole of the land.
Netanyahu is currently facing charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust in the Jerusalem Court.
It is important to mention that the annexation plan will separate approximately 200.000 Palestinians from their livelihoods and vital water sources, the agricultural lands will be under Israeli control, and the annexation of illegal settlements around Jerusalem will end the possibilities of establishing a Palestinian capital in the eastern part of the city.
