In its new report prepared in cooperation with the United Nations Office for Human Rights, the United Nations’ Mission in South Sudan confirmed that “survivors of sexual violence in South Sudan are still struggling to obtain adequate medical and psychological care”.
Introducing the summary of the report, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights representative, Michelle Bachelet, said that “the treatment of these victims’ physical and psychological injuries is a critical step that gives them an opportunity to rebuild their lives and the lives of their families”.
In its response to the report’s findings, the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare said that the report was “timely” and provided a “real picture” of the challenges faced by survivors, including access to health services.
The Ministry also highlighted the actions that the Republic of South Sudan has already taken to address sexual violence throughout the country. Report link: https://news.un.org/ar/story/2020/05/1055182
