Taziazit factory workers announced the suspension of their strike in response to a request from the Mauritanian government after negotiations with the company’s management were stalled.
The workers justified the suspension of their strike as a goodwill initiative and in response to the government’s request to stop the strike in such circumstances despite the intransigence of the company’s management and its denial of past agreements.
In return, the Mauritanian government pledged, through the governor of the province of “Inchiri”, who intervened to solve the problem with the administration at the earliest time.
Some wondered about the nature of this intervention, especially as it is a matter of violating a signed agreement with the union.
It is also important to note that Taziazit factory workers had entered into an open strike since May 4 in protest against the frequency of the administration’s violations.
