In its International Labor Day statement, the Jordanian “Workers House for Studies and Research” estimated the loss of between 50.000 and 80.000 jobs as well as the wages of thousands of workers were damaged due to the Corona crisis.
The Workers” House also expressed in its statement serious concerns about the unprecedented rise in unemployment rates in the country due to the pandemic and because of the weak ability of the Jordanian economy to create job opportunities.
It is noteworthy that Jordan recorded an unemployment rate of 19.1% in 2019.
On the other hand, the Tamkeen Center for Legal Aid and Human Rights expressed its fear of the repercussions of the Coronavirus crisis on the labor market and professions. They noted that the center monitored the social situation of 1370 workers of different nationalities and recorded the worsening of their living conditions as well as their inability to provide for their basic needs.
Encouraging opinions were repeated for the restart of the regular economic cycle, in view of Jordan’s success in controlling the spread of the Coronavirus, as no case has been recorded in five days and the number of infected people decreased to 460.
