In an effort to limit the repercussions of COVID-19 on its budget, Air Algerie plans to introduce an exceptional reduction to the wages of its employees.
According to a statement by its general manager, the reduction in employee wages is the only option for the company to save its budget, since the amounts allocated for maintenance cannot be reduced.
According to the Algerian News Agency, this issue was raised during a meeting on May 7 in the presence of the unions that asked for a “deadline” to study the issue and submit alternative proposals to save the company’s finances.
It appears that the company agreed to postpone the decision to reduce wages pending unions’ proposals in an attempt to reach a compromise solution, according to the same source.
It was also reported that the Algerian Airlines company employs 9.600 employees and workers in various fields.
