International Labor Day Celebrations in Egypt, Palestine and Jordan

Under the slogan “Between dismissal from work and corona”, the Egyptian Democratic Workers Union expressed its fear of the health consequences of the Coronavirus on workers, especially in fragile sectors. The Union stressed the need to take effective preventive measures to protect the health of workers.

In Palestine, the General Federation of Palestinian Trade Unions issued a statement in which it appealed to all male and female workers to adhere to preventive measures during their return to work, as it was mentioned that cases of brokering work permits, smuggling workers to the Israeli labor market and exposing them to the worst forms of exploitation continued.

The same statement included the request of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Palestine to compensate those affected by the pandemic on the basis of justice and transparency and in accordance with clear standards that preserve their dignity and guarantee the arrival of aid without discrimination.

In Jordan, in a televised speech, the President of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Jordan considered that the country is witnessing exceptional circumstances imposed by the global pandemic and warned of its serious repercussions on various economic activities and on the labor and workers sector.

The president also called at the end of the speech to continue in making efforts to serve Jordan and achieve the goals of sustainable development.
