Amnesty International has published the story of the experience of a Kenyan worker “Mary” starting from her travel from Nairobi to her arrival in Doha to working as a driver and home manager.
“I worked for a family with six children and paid for getting the job in Qatar about $ 1200 to the Kenya Employment Agency, and I had no choice due to my responsibilities to care for my sick son and mom”, said Mary.
“I wake up every day at five in the morning to clean the car and then to move the children to school and their father to work to go back and spend four hours cleaning the house, I did not find time for breakfast and lunch, I was doing this in a short time while standing I have to be at the time to bring the children and their father home”. “All this for $ 330 a month, which the employer will deduct an amount from to cover the costs of bringing me into Qatar”, added Mary.
“I was forbidden from using the phone, and the employer did not know that I brought a phone from Kenya that I had hidden carefully in my room. I have no rights except sleep that could be taken away from you to get a family member late to somewhere.”
« Even the car, I have to maintain it unscratched. Any scratch that affects it, I will be forced to bear the costs of repair and I do not have to demand that this be drawn from the insurance company. »
« I lost the meaning of life more than once », concluded Mary.
