Algeria Extends the Deadlines for Social Security Contributions Payement

The Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security of Algeria has announced the extension of the deadlines for payment of contributions to the Social Security, in relation to the wage system until the end of next May, and without the measure until the end of next September.

Minister Shawky Ishek Youssef said that this decision is part of the measures taken in this exceptional circumstance that the country is experiencing as a result of the Corona pandemic, according to the Algerian News Agency “Waj”.

The Minister stated that the sector took measures after the approval of the Prime Minister, namely “to extend the deadlines for payment of contributions to the National Fund for Social Security for wage workers for the month of April by thirty days. As for social security for the non-wage earner deadlines for the payment of contributions were extended from June 30 until September 30.

The Minister assured employers and employees that due to this exceptional situation, increases in previous delay fines were also suspended for payment of social security contributions, for a period of six months starting from April this year, indicating that payment of contributions “allows social insured to benefit from Social security services, including medicines, through a recovery card”.

Ashiq Yusef mentioned that these contributions are considered the “only source” of financing for social security funds and ensuring the sustainability of this system.
