Jordan: The Electricity Companies Syndicate Calls on Al-Razaz Not to Resort to the Deduction of 50% of Workers’ Salaries

The head of the General Syndicate of Workers in Electricity Companies, Ali Al-Hadid, asked the electricity companies and other major companies not to resort to the deduction of 50% of the salaries of their employees as defence order No. 6 provides for them, indicating that the vacation they were subject to was compulsory, while they are ready to work at any moment.

Ali Al-Hadid told Jordan 24 that social responsibility imposes on these companies full payment of workers’ salaries, given the difficult conditions the kingdom is going through, noting that failure to pay salaries may cause social problems that will explode in the face of the government at any moment, expressing his hope that official efforts and measures taken by the state will not be wasted due to the wrong decision.

Al-Hadid added that the government made several decisions to stand with the private sector, such as loans with interest at 2%, stopping the payment of old age allowance for social security, stopping the payment of other dues, stopping work with maximum load and stopping work with the price difference in fuel, all of which are in the interest of the private sector, companies and employers, and they should look to the issue from a different perspective, which is the workers’ rights one.

Al-Hadid called on the Prime Minister, Dr. Omar Al-Razzaz, in his capacity as Minister of Defense, to review the decision to pay 50% of the salaries every month, so that there will be no encroachment on workers’ rights, noting that paying the 50% does not cover the housing wages of workers.
