Mauritanian government said it had obligated the management of the company, “Afro Port Abu Dhabi”, which operates Nouakchott International Airport, to reverse the decision to reduce the salaries of its workers in light of the crisis of the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
The official Mauritanian news agency reported on Tuesday, that the Minister of Transport, Mohamedou Ahmadou Amhamid, informed the company’s administration of the need to strictly respect the instructions of the government, which stipulated not to reduce the workers’ wages in this sensitive circumstance, and to stand with them instead.
The agency indicated that the company agreed to the authorities’ request and decided to undo the reduction in the salaries of its workers.
The company “Afro Port Abu Dhabi” had informed its workers of its decision to reduce their salaries in light of the suspension of flights at Nouakchott International Airport due to the Coronavirus crisis.
It is noteworthy that the UAE company, “Afro Port”, is running the Nouakchott International Airport, after a deal it concluded with the Mauritanian government in 2018.
As of Tuesday, the number of reported infections in Mauritania with the Coruna virus was 7, including two cured cases, in addition to the presence of one death, according to official figures.
