The recent report of Tamkeen Center for Legal Aid and Human Rights revealed the reality of migrant workers in the Qualified Industrial Zones in Ramtha and Al-Zalil, where mystery abounds.
Although most workers receive their wages at the beginning of each month between the fourth and seventh, yet, the reasons for workers dealing with the embargo show their great suffering in securing their essential needs.
The report pointed out that workers’ housing is in the same work areas, and away from neighborhoods and markets, hence, the ban situation makes it hard for them to secure their needs except on foot, which limits their movement, as they have not received their salaries due to their inability to deal with electronic wallet data which is complex for them.
These workers live under the pressure of the lack of food in the neighboring areas, despite the easing of the ban by granting a period between 10 AM and 6 PM daily to meet the needs, making other citizens rush to purchase all goods, depriving the workers from obtaining what they needed, and offering some merchants a chance to trick them, by selling them expired materials sometimes and even at a higher price.
In the industrial areas of Al-Dhahil, the local administration stopped commercial gatherings, in violation of public safety requirements, and considered a carrier-transmitting environment, so workers were deprived of supplies, but factory departments began providing workers with their needs, through employees who have work permits dedicated to this task, and providing Health safety kits for them.
The Tamkeen Center revealed that irregular migrant workers are at the forefront of their work in the factories of those areas, which are still operating with official permission, but reside outside them exposing them to danger and legal accountability, if they are stopped by the security services, and they may be at risk of infection with the virus If they mingle with infected individuals during their daily movement.
