The Democratic Confederation of Labor confirmed the necessity of the contribution of the rich, and everyone who benefited over the past years from the national economy and tax exemptions, and from those who accumulated wealth, and all those who evaded the payment of taxes for decades or smuggled money abroad, in financing the counter Coronavirus pandemic fund.
In a press release, the Confederation inquired about the fate of the fund that was created to confront the risks related to natural disasters, whose resources are supposed to be allocated to support all groups affected by the current situation.
The report called on the Economic Vigilance Committee to make the social aspect a priority in the procedures of support and distribution, and not to surrender to the pressure of some economic lobbies.
They called on the need to make enterprises support conditional to the preservation of jobs, as well as the acceleration of the empowerment meaures directed for vulnerable groups in order to reduce the causes of the spread of the pandemic and ensure the minimum conditions of living generous.
The Confederation also affirmed the necessity of establishing a monitoring committee at the level of the Economic Vigilance Committee as a mechanism for tracking and evaluation, with the participation of all economic and social actors, and the continuous publication of data, not only with respect to resources, but also for exchange and distribution at the level of businesses and social groups affected by this global pandemic.
The statement also called on the government to develop the fund for the management of COVID-19 pandemic and to replace it with a permanent national fund for emergency, subject to the accepted governance mechanisms, given the open possibilities for the development of the pandemic and the extension of its repercussions and residues on the economic fabric and social situation, which imposes the provision of fixed, guaranteed and institutional resources, In addition to donations and contributions.
The Confederation also affirmed that the Labor Code and social laws must be respected, and that the situation should not be used in any way as an excuse for some to violate the law or employ it in favor of their respective enterprises at the expense of the interests of the workers.
The confederation stressed the need to strengthen the roles of the labor inspection and work medicine to enforce occupational health and safety procedures and respect for social law.
