Workers in UNRWA departments in Lebanon have started to apply new pressure on the agency’s management to claim their rights.
The workers sent standard letters stating their demands to the agency’s commissioner-general, Philip Lazarini, and to the commissioner-general, Christian Saunders, and the director of UNRWA’s operations in Lebanon, Claudio Cordone, along with the human resources department and all those involved, bringing the number of messages addressed to About 65 emails.
In turn, Ali Huwaidi, director-general of the Commission “302” for Defending Refugees’ Rights, called on daily workers in other regions to replicate the Lebanese experience.
Huwaidi pointed out, in an interview with the “Palestinian Refugee Gate”, that this peaceful, civilized method is important and will be effective, and at the same time, indicates the extent of injustice to which these daily workers are exposed to.
Huwaidi considered that the daily workers in other regions must copy the Lebanese experience, because of its importance, and also to demand the various rights in each region.
Huweidi also explained that, for example, “In the Gaza Strip, only seven days’ allowance was paid to daily workers, and there are claims that there will be a payment for all days, given that daily workers are present at home by a decision from UNRWA under the quarantine, and this applies to the West Bank and the region of Syria, and now even in Jordan, where daily workers are required not to take any action until after the resolution of the current crisis . A decision by the Director General of UNRWA in Jordan.
However, 10 days have passed and no decision concerning the resuming of activities for daily workers was issued.
Huweidi stated that daily workers in Lebanon were promised to obtain their salaries during the month of March, but until this moment also, this was not observed, in addition to settling their professional positions and stabilizing them.
