Morocco: Unions and Employers Call for Unity in Facing the Corona Epidemic

On Friday, March 13, in Casablanca, the General Confederation of Moroccan Contracting, the Democratic Confederation of Labor and the Moroccan Confederation of Labor expressed their commitment to working hand in hand to confront the effects of the Corona epidemic on the world of economy and employment.

This came during two separate meetings that brought together the General Union for Moroccan Contracting with the two central unions, during which the importance of solidarity, synergy and cooperation was emphasized in order to overcome this situation, and to avoid the potential impacts of the epidemic on the worlds of work and enterprise.

Press reports also said that these two meetings will be followed by similar meetings with other unions, in order to mobilize the social and economic partners in the near and medium term, to confront the crisis resulting from the spread of Corona virus at the global level.

During the two meetings, discussions were held on the health aspect and how to expand the field of sensitization, and to enhance communication with the procedure to avoid infection of corona in the workplace.

The focus was also on the economic side through deliberation on the measures that need to be taken in order to save and support businesses and to preserve work.

They also discussed how initiatives can be taken by the government to overcome this situation.

In this regard, the President of the General Federation of Moroccan Contracting, Mr. Chakib Laalj, highlighted that the employers and the unions are partners and their fate is the same.

Laalj stressed the necessity of collective thinking in a pragmatic manner regarding the problem of the Corona epidemic, indicating that this current situation requires exceptional measures.

For his part, Abdel-Qader Al-Zayer, the Secretary General of the Democratic Confederation of Labor, considered that this situation requires strong mobilization on the health aspect, as well as the social position that could result from the Corona epidemic, which would develop and lead to health, economic and social harm.

In order to face this situation, Al-Zayer stressed the necessity of concerted efforts by all, so that the various proposals have their weight and the possibilities of their implementation.

As for Miloudi Mkharek, Secretary-General of the Moroccan Labor Union, he stressed the importance of taking practical measures to reduce the effects of this epidemic on the world of work, especially on work positions, highlighting that the current situation created by Corona requires putting the hand in the hand in order to overcome it, indicating the importance of deliberation Between employers and unions to find effective and necessary solutions to the issues that concern them.
