Egypt: Fire at a Plastic Factory in El Amria Free Zone

A huge fire broke out in a plastic store inside the Free Zone in El Amria, west of Alexandria, on February 28th, which resulted in huge material losses without human casualties.

Press reports, quoting from security sources, confirmed that civil protection required the factories’ licenses according to the activity, especially in the production of flammable materials, and that the factory owner should have provided them, until a committee was formed and could confirm that the conditions were granted to get a license to start work, confirming that many factory departments did not comply to these conditions.

Reports added that fire extinguishers are not sufficient to achieve safety factors inside the factory, but there are special protective conditions and procedures for storing highly flammable and ventilating materials inside the factory, especially in places where goods are stored in order to prevent ignition.
