On March 2, the management of the Egyptian Spinning and Weaving Company in Sadat City issued a decision to close the company and give employees compulsory leave until Thursday.
In a press release, the Workers’ and Trade Union Syndicates House stated that the workers had demanded the payment of the periodic and social allowance that had not been paid for three years on the pretext that no official decision had been issued by the government to pay it.
Workers have contacted the administration, which has categorically refused to issue any decision to disburse the bonuses or increase the salaries of workers, for which no increase has occurred for three years, whereby the workers requested an increase in salaries by 200 pounds per worker, but they refused the increase.
Their rejection to give any promises to discuss the matter led the workers to stop working on Monday before the administration issued its decision to close down the factory and grant the employees compulsory leave.
Workers also rejected this measure, and they stuck to the factory and confirmed their adherence to their demand to receive the wages’ increase.
