Journalists and workers of the confiscated Radio Shems FM, will start a new wave of protests onn Monday, March 2, until their demands are met, according to the president of the National Syndicate of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT for its French acronym) branch, Khawla Seliti, as reported by Tunis Africa News Agency (TAP).
Workers are demanding the radio to find an urgent solution to the institution’s pending situation, which has become a serious threat, especially after completing all the stages of the ceasing process.
According to TAP, employees of Shems FM are calling for a ministerial council to be held as soon as possible in order to take the necessary decisions to ensure the continuity of the institution and the rights of its employees.
They also demanded that the Prime Minister, Elias Al-Fakhfakh, to efficiently tackle the confiscated media institutions file in particular as he pledged in the first press conference of the formation of the government on supporting the media as one of the points stipulated in the contract document for government action.
The president of SNJT branch also indicated that radio workers are coordinating efforts with other journalists and workers in confiscated media institutions (Shems Fm, Dar Al-Sabah, and Radio Zaytouna) to engage in joint movements under the supervision of the Tunisian General Labor Union and the National Syndicate of Tunisian Journalists.
The meeting held last Thursday at the radio headquarters to study the situation in the institution called on the Minister of Finance in his capacity as Chairman of the Expropriation Property Management Committee to hold an urgent meeting with the professional parties to discuss urgent solutions and decide on the fate of the institution to ensure its continuity and the rights of its employees as well as the appointment of a general manager at the earliest deadlines.
