Jordan: Workers of Aqaba Railways Company are not Subject to the Civil Service System

The chairperson rapporteur of the Parliamentary Work Committee, Representative Khaled Ramadan, said that the Aqaba Railways Company has become the legal and realistic successor to the Aqaba Railway Corporation, according to a report submitted by a committee that included the Secretary Generals of the Ministries of Transport and Labor, and representatives of the “Aqaba Railway” as well as the Civil Service Bureau.

The Jordanian Labor Observatory website reported that Ramadan confirmed that all workers in that company are subject to the labor law, and not to the civil service system, explaining that the decision of the Council of Ministers regarding referrals to retirement “does not apply to these workers, but instead the labor law is what applies to them”.

This came during Ramadan's presidency of a committee meeting, held on Wednesday, during which the demands of employees of the railroad company in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone were discussed.
