Jordan / Karak Governorate: Unemployed Sit In Continues for Third Consecutive Week

A group of unemployed people in Al-Karak Governorate continue their indefinite sit-in in front of the Greater Karak Municipality Building, for the third week in a row, to demand employment.

The Jordanian Labor Observatory website quoted a spokesman for the protesters who said that the sit-in will go on until their employment demands are fulfilled, noting that they “are not being hired because of the municipality's failure, because the Ministry of Labor has entrusted them with our employment order.”

The spokesman pointed out that “the officials in the governorate are trying to break their sit-in before the king's scheduled visit next week.”

He pointed out that the mayor of Karak filed a complaint of defamation and degradation against them. Al-Jaafara said, “The abuse was not issued by the young protestors, but rather from outside the sit-in.”
