Agreement Reached, Teachers Strike Ending in Yemeni Cities

Press reports confirmed that an agreement had been reached to suspend the teachers’ strike in the cities of “Aden”, “Lahj” and “Abyan”.

The reports said that a meeting bringing together Deputy Prime Minister Salem Al-Khanbashi and the Southern Teachers’ Union at the Ministry of Finance in Aden concluded an agreement.

Al-Khonbashi instructed the relevant ministries represented in the fields of education, civil and financial services to pay teachers’ allowances from 2014 to 2017 by the end of April, within Budget of 2020.

In addition to that, he instructed the job nature for employees in 2011 during the month of July.

According to the agreement, the union will issue a statement to lift the strike as soon as it receives a copy of the Deputy Prime Minister's memorandum, which was sent today to the relevant ministries.
