Strike in Air Algérie and Provisional Dismissal of Crew Members

Air Algérie has informed around 40 of employees of the commercial navigation crews (Stewards and stewardesses specifically), with a provisional suspension from the company.

The decision made is due the sudden and unannounced strike that they launched on Monday morning.

According to the Algerian “Al-Shorouk” website, the notice of the provisional suspension came through a bailiff who went to Air Algérie headquarters (Distribution and Exploitation Center) at Houari Boumediene Airport.

The notice determined that a number of crew members would not occupy their positions, especially since the absence was due to a strike that the administration did not receive any prior notice to.

The temporarily suspension included 40 stewards and stewardesses as a result of the unannounced strike, in addition to continuing legal procedures that could reach a lawsuit with the Casablanca court, according to “Al-Shourouk”.

Earlier on Monday morning, the Air Algérie cabinet crew launched a sudden strike, which caused the volatility of domestic and international flights at Houari Boumediene Airport.

According to a statement by the crew members on social media, the strike came after the disappointing meeting that their respective union held with the company’s management on February 6, where the company showed its lack of commitment to previous promises and decisions.

The statement stated that one of the reasons for protesting is the failure to implement the old signed agreements that were registered with the relevant authorities.

In addition to the unfortunate working conditions, the crew members noted the unhealthy workplace they operate in as well as the non-compliance of the work system with random programming based on patronage, and the most important according to the statement is the poor management of the human and material resources of the company.

It is noteworthy that the protests and strikes have been repetitive for a long time now in Air Algérie due to professional and social demands, especially those related to wages and the application of provisions noted in the collective agreement.
