Khadija Al-Zoumi, president of the Independent Women's Organization, called for the creation a friendly media outlet for women's issues, specifically defending issues of migrant women.
During the closure of the twenty-sixth edition of the international book fair, on Sunday, February 16, Khadija Al-Zoumi said in statements to “Al-Wahdah” newspaper that the Independent Women Organization considered highlighting its strategy that is based on the need to pay attention to women's issues, especially when it comes to the image of migrant women in the media.
The organization noted the spread of negative stereotypes, such as the association of women living in the Gulf states with prostitution, and at best working they are identified as domestic workers. As for women working in Africa, there is a pre-established image linked to sorcery.
Al-Zoumi pointed out that, in contrast to the negative image of migrant women, there are successful models that have engraved their names on the list of brilliance that should be encouraged, calling for creating a friendly media outlet that tackles women's issues and lobby for it through the provision of capital.
The spokeswoman added that women have not yet reached the ability to create capital and create what is called a friendly media for women's issues which enables them to control the information.
According to the same statement, Al-Zoumi called on men to offer their support and improve the existent negative stereotypes, whether inside or outside of Morocco.
