The Lebanese Minister of Communications, Talal Hawat, has dismissed employees of the Cell Phone Sector Owners Association in an inappropriate and unlawful manner, and without taking into account the minimum rights of the employees that were dismissed.
Press reports confirmed that the expelled individuals did not find in the letters they received, any indication of any warning period or compensation, and they were asked to hand over their keys, computers and telephones to the secretariat and leave their offices immediately, provided that they receive half of their monthly salaries before five o'clock in the afternoon of February 17.
It is noteworthy that the dismissal decisions included members of the commission’s Board of Directors, who have been working since 2002 and have extensive experience in the sector.
The decision also contains a number of issues, the first of which is that the members of the commission were appointed by a Minister’s decision, while the dismissal decision was signed by the Chairman of the Commission, Naji Abboud.
Nonetheless, orders were also given to the Ministry's guards to prevent any expelled employees from entering the ministry and taking any of their belongings.
