Jordan: Workers' Office for Studies and Research speaks out on raising minimum wage

The Workers' Office for Studies and Research has said that the government's call for a meeting of the tripartite minimum wage committee is a positive step despite the delay in the light of the 2017 ministerial decree on increasing the minimum wage at 220 dinars.

The ministerial decree stipulates that the sum must be reviewed by the tripartite commission at the beginning of each year while article 52 of the Labor Code stipulates that the minimum wage must be fixed according to the cost of living.

The Workers' Office for Studies and Research released a statement in which it said that raising the minimum wage will protect the working classes of the poor by ensuring a decent standard of living. The upward revision will also help, according to the Office, balance income which will encourage consumption and strengthen the economy and growth rates.
