Sudan: Dam Implementation Unit Fires 312 Workers

The director general of the Dam Implementation Unit decided last Thursday to fire 86 drivers from the General Administration of Financial, Human and Administrative Resources. Thus, the number of workers dismissed from the Unit reached 312 within ten days.

According to the online newspaper ‘Altaghyir’, the layoffs were based on the decision of the Unit’s restructuring committee; a decision validated by the Ministerial Council and by the Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources.

The decision was also based on the provisions of article 48 of the unit's conditions of employment for staff. The director called on the specialized parties to settle the compensation for the dismissed workers in accordance with the laws in force.

The Dam Implementation Unit employs around 1,070 workers with wages exceeding £ 159 billion a year.
