Egypt: The Oriental Weavers company fire hundreds of workers

The company "Oriental Weavers", owned by Egyptian businessman Mohamed Farid Khemais, has laid off hundreds of workers and civil servants after years of service.

In this context, the online newspaper 'Caire 24' reported, citing the testimonies of employees, that the administration has implemented a strategy aimed at reducing the workforce and replacing civil servants with new ones paid at salaries lower than those perceived by the ancients. The administration also chose to fire sick workers so that they would no longer have to pay for their medical care.

Some officials have chosen to accept their resignations in exchange for compensation so as not to engage in legal proceedings.
