Despite various government programs to combat high unemployment rates – programs to create 25,000 new jobs in the private sector – and the suspension of work permits for foreign workers in certain sectors, unemployment has reached the 50% among the youth while 70% of Omani people remain excluded from the labor market.
In this context, local media reports affirmed that unemployment remains the main challenge of the Omani government which is based, essentially, on oil revenues which represent 71% of the total revenues.
