The General Federation of Workers Trade Unions in Bahrain celebrated International Migrants Day last Friday; a day celebrated on December 18 of each year in accordance with decision 55/93 issued by the United Nations General Assembly. About 250 foreign workers attended the Bahrain General Federation of Trade Unions celebrations.
In this context, the official page of the Federation reported that the secretary-general of the organization, Hassen Halouaji, affirmed, during his allowance, that since its foundation in 2002, the Federation has always defended workers regardless of their nationality and that when international convention number 189, dealing with the rights of domestic workers, was approved, the Federation strongly supported it.
In the same speech, the secretary-general said that although the Federation supports the nationalization of employment project, it also continues to defend the rights and dignity of foreign workers.
For her part, the representative of the International Labor Organization (ILO), Sofia Kaghan, said that 23 million foreign workers work in the Gulf, including 4 million foreign workers.
