A 28-year-old construction worker operating under Mechanism 16 set himself on fire in the village of Jilma, Sidi Bouzid governorate. According to local media reports, the young man poured gasoline into one of the fields near the village to protest against the removal of his name from the building site workers.
The injured man was transferred to Sidi Bouzid hospital before being sent to the Ben Arous burn hospital in Tunis where medical sources said he was suffering from third degree burns.
The worker experiences a difficult social situation with two sick parents while he has been without pay for four years. Following this incident, the young man's relatives blocked the road from Tunis to Gafsa to protest the marginalization of young people in the region.
