The Ministry of Labor has issued a ministerial decree on suspension of recruitment of foreigners, temporarily, in certain sectors. According to local media reports, the first article of the decree states that work permits will be suspended for six months for foreign workers in private companies engaged in building and cleanliness. The second article states that this suspension is not applied for the following cases:
1. Companies employing more than one hundred workers.
2. Companies active in government projects.
3. Companies managed by employers registered with the General Authority for the Development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and those underwritten by the General Social Insurance Authority.
4. Companies registered internationally and based in free zones.
As a result, the Ministerial Decree number 200/2019 will be canceled while the new one will enter into force as soon as it is published in the Official Journal. It should also be recalled that this decree is based on the Labor Code number 35/2003 and the ministerial decree number 200/2019 concerning the temporary suspension of the granting of work permits for foreign workers.
