In response to the request of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Iraq for the increase of pensions of private sector pensioners, the Secretary-General of the Ministerial Council explained that there is no legal basis for the Minister of Finance to raise the threshold of the state budget after it has been discussed and approved. The secretariat-general added that the budget suffers from a deficit of 34 billion dinars.
The request of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Iraq concerns only 20,000 private sector retirees. In this context, the Federation explained that the rights of retirees must be preserved and called on the Ministerial Council to put in place the reforms it had promised before.
