An Algerian court on Tuesday sentenced 21 protesters to six months in prison on charges of 'undermining the national unity'. A verdict that falls to a month of the presidential election.
In this context, the Algerian press agency explained that the verdict targeted protesters, who were arrested on the spot, who waved the flag representing the Amazigh minority of the country.
These verdicts against the protesters confirm the bad faith of the authorities who continue to ignore the demands of the political and civil forces that demand the release of all detainees before the elections.
In this context, the Coordination of Algerian prisoners of conscience has ensured that more than two hundred prisoners are currently languishing in prison since the break-up of the Algerian popular movement. Activist Lakhdar Bourouqaâ and other opposing figures are among the detainees.
Amnesty International, for its part, condemned the verdicts against the protesters and called, in a statement, for the release of all detainees.
