Palestine: Women's participation rate in the labor market is below 20%

During the last meeting held by the General Authority of the National Committee of Palestinian Women's Employment, held last week at the headquarters of the Ministry of Labor in Ramallah in the presence of members of the committee and the local and international strategic partners of the Public and private sector, the Minister of Labor and the Minister of Women's Affairs have called for increasing the rate of female workers to 20% by the end of 2020.

In this context, the online newspaper 'Al Hayat Al Jadida' reported that this meeting aims to put in place a policy to strengthen the participation of women in the economic wheel and to fight against discrimination and inequalities in the environment professional.

At the same meeting, it was revealed that women's participation rate in the labor market is less than 20% of all workers while 60% of new graduates are women. At the wage level, women do not even reach the minimum wage (which is 1450 shekels).

This is the first meeting of the National Committee of Women's Employment which was formed in 2013 at the time of the former Minister of Labor Ahmed Majdlani. The Committee was re-formed with the addition of seven new members, including a representative of the International Labor Organization (ILO).
