Iraq: Ministerial Council proposes to change the retirement age

The Ministerial Council decided to present its proposal concerning the amendment of the law on retirement to Parliament; a proposal to change the age of retirement to 60 years. In Iraq, retirement is possible after 30 years of service or at the age of 63.

The Iraqi Government is preparing to initiate a national plan to combat unemployment and poverty; a program that includes several points including, among others, the provision of lots of land, facilitated medium loans and the application of retirement age (to hire as many young people as possible). The government seeks, by this plan, to ease tensions and calm the last social movement.
