Qatar: According to 'The Guardian', Doha conceals the number of workers killed by heat

A report published by the British newspaper 'The Guardian' has revealed that Qatar is limited to external control before closing the files of the victims of accidents at work in the ranks of workers of the World Cup yards which are, for the majority , Asians.

The majority of these deaths, which occur in the country hosting the 2022 World Cup, are caused by sudden cardiac arrests that occur when victims sleep. The majority of corpses are not autopsied and no investigation follows according to the newspaper.

This summer, hundreds of thousands of migrant workers toiled in temperatures of up to 45C for up to 10 hours a day as Qatar’s construction boom hit its peak ahead of the Fifa World Cup 2022.

The Qatari authorities, in line with other countries across the Gulf, have said they are protecting workers from heat-related injuries through a work ban that prohibits manual labour in unshaded outdoor areas between 11.30 and 3 pm from mid-June to August.
