Egypt: Eastern Company workers protest

Eastern Company workers called for increased bonuses, restaurant vouchers and other business motions. In this context, the online newspaper 'Al Bawaba News' reported that the company has changed from law number 203 regulating the administrations of public enterprises to the law number 159 regulating the administrations of Egyptian shareholders while the state is there still majority with 50.5% of the shares.

Last Wednesday, the workers organized a protest rally at the factory, stopping the production of certain units in order to put pressure on the company to obtain a favorable response to their requests.

In a statement, the protesters called for a 220-pound increase for the daily bonus for 6th-level workers and a collective increase of the same premium to 900 days. The workers demanded that social security cover not be changed, that the premium of the nature of the work be increased to 75% for those who work at the factory and 50% for those who work in the administration, to to appoint Top Services agents and to assess the skills of service workers.
