Lebanon: Towards a new tax for domestic workers

The Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Gebran Bassil, proposed a new tax for domestic workers worth $ 50 per month for the first female worker, $ 100 for the second and $ 150 for the third.

Observers of social affairs in Lebanon have said that the minister is seeking to fight against the currency's flight abroad. However, they explained that Gebran Bassil did not take into consideration the fact that this new tax will increase the costs on women workers, who remain the weakest link in this equation, since they are paid $ 150 per month and they will be forced to pay a quarter of their remuneration for this new tax.
