The impact of the economic crisis on the bakery sector in Lebanon

The executive council of the bakery workers' union of Lebanon and Mount Lebanon has estimated that the dollar crisis has greatly impacted Lebanese citizens and especially those with low wages. During its last meeting, the executive council studied the social situation and the economic crisis of the country. At the end of this meeting, the council demanded that professionals in the sector be spared from this crisis and that they can continue to serve the citizens without jeopardizing the future of their profession.

The executive council of the bakery workers union of Lebanon and Mount Lebanon noted the importance of the bread for the poor, the workers and the unemployed explaining that the bread remains the main food for all the citizens and that it is not necessary not that prices are revised upwards. In a statement, the executive council called for the prices of fuel and flour to be set according to the official value of the dollar and paid with the local currency. He also called on the Minister of Economy to set up a commission to fix and control the price of bread; a commission formed by the delegate of the Ministry of Economy, a representative of the workers and a representative of the bosses.

The current chaos can only be overcome by a real fight against rising prices and the monopoly imposed by a few traders.
