Tunisia: Regional Union warns about the sustainability of the Gafsa Phosphate Company

The Regional Labor Union in Gafsa issued a statement alerting about the sustainability of the Gafsa Phosphates Company, which is no longer able to renew its fleet of used equipment because of the financial crisis it is facing which prevents it from repaying its debts to the suppliers. The Regional Union explained that this situation is caused by the measures decided by the supervisory authorities since 2011 and that this will eventually annihilate the company definitively.

In its statement, the Regional Union called for urgent decisions to prevent the bankruptcy of the company. According to the statement, the most urgent thing is to start paying off the debts, which accumulated since 2016, of the company; debts of about 800 million dinars owed by the Tunisian Chemical Group and the 'TIFERT' Company.

The Union has also called for urgent state intervention to protect the company and support it financially given its fundamental economic role in the region.
