Tunisia: Teachers' strike postponed

In its last issue, the 'Achaab' newspaper revealed that the executive board of the National Federation of Civil Servants of the Ministry of Higher Education, under the umbrella of the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT), has decided to postpone the planned strike ( 24th, 25th, and 26th of September ) to the next 12th, 13th and 14th of November.

This decision was taken at the end of a negotiating session held last Monday at the headquarters of the Ministry between a ministerial delegation and a trade union delegation. During this session, it was also agreed to provide a bonus to practicing university teachers provided that it meets the needs and the sector and is disbursed in October.

It was also agreed to amend the basic regime of the technical assistant body and this by creating two new ranks who are expert technician and general technician, to increase the promotions from 20 to 35% and to set up the automatic promotion Outstanding Chief Technician for those whose seniority has exceeded the recognized standard for the year 2020.

In this context, the ministerial part committed itself to gather all the amendments and to contact all the concerned ministries during the current week. For its part, the union has insisted that the decree be issued before the end of next month.

On the other hand, the ministry is committed to organizing workshops as part of the reform of the education system and the next congress of directors of university services, scheduled for the 20th of next month, that of the secretaries-general planned for the November 1 and the conference on the structuring of university management scheduled for November 11, 2019.

The agreement also included the application of the measure of continuing education through agreements that must be signed before October 15th.
