Tunisia: Farm 'Sidi Saad' workers call for help

More than a hundred workers at the Sidi Saad farm, Menzel Mhiri delegation in the Kairouan governorate, have appealed for help after the suspension of their salaries for more than two months.

The majority of these workers have failed to purchase school supplies for children while the back to school season has already begun. Some of them are now unable to repay their debts with the Office of State Lands and the social security funds.

The local radio 'Mosaïque FM' has unveiled that this farm has changed from an economic force that brings the most in its products to a sterile surface because of the mismanagement of the administration and recalled that the surface of the farm exceeds 2700 hectares. The production of the farm greatly diminished until the surface became a kind of abandoned land where olive and pistachio trees were abandoned.

The farm 'Sidi Saad' was confiscated after the revolution and was handed over to the state under the management of the National Land Office which largely failed in its mission to make this farm, which held an important role in the national economy, a ruin.
