A Swiss Newspaper calls for the withdrawal of 2022 World Cup from Qatar because of the exploitation of foreign workers

The Swiss newspaper 'Le Temps' called for the withdrawal of 2022 World Cup from Qatar following the crimes committed against millions of foreign workers.

In a report published by the newspaper, the researcher in political science at the University of Lausanne, Simpson Yamani, questioned the legitimacy of organizing the World Cup in Qatar while Doha continues to violate foreign workers human rights.

The Swiss researcher based his analysis on the official accusations made by international organizations against Doha; accusations based in turn on the difficult working conditions which are against universal human rights.

He added that Qatar human rights violations have been unveiled by Pakistan, India, the Philippines and other Asian countries, a matter which calls into question the legitimacy that FIFA continues to support Qatar in organizing the World Cup, despite of its violations.

According to the Qatari Ministry of Planning and Statistics, about 1.9 million migrant workers are currently active in Qatar, representing 90% of the population. Nevertheless Foreign workers, are exposed to exploitation and "new forms of slavery", according to the researcher.

For his part, Steven Cocke Bran, Amnesty International's Director of Global Affairs, explained that a foreign worker on

the site is paid Rs. 700.- per month ($ 195) but a nuber of workers said that they are not paid on regular basis

In order that Qatar meets the time limits for achieving construction of necessary playgrounds for World Cup 2022, companies need to work 14 hours a day in an unsustainable hot weather.

The researcher also explained that this state of human chaos and harsh conditions results in a high rate of deaths as victims of the Hamdain regime.

The Swiss newspaper denounced the lack of transparency. Qatar does not disclose the statistics and real reports on the number of deaths, but on the contrary is hiding facts from any international organization concerning the status and conditions of workers, to maintain its image at the international level
