Mauritania: Workers in economic capital victims of major violations

Trade unionists and civil society activists have announced that workers have been the victims of major violations on the sidelines of a meeting by the National Committee for Human Rights in Nouadhibou, Mauritania’s economic capital, on August 20.

The representative of the Mauritanian Workers' Union of the city, Cheikh Ghouth, noted that the Chinese companies ‘Poly Hondong’ and ' Sun rise' do not respect labor laws currently on the books. The Chinese companies have their employees working 24/7, fire them indiscriminately, and are ignoring several legal verdicts.

In addition, the union representative also mentioned the question of the disastrous conditions of SNIM workers as well as bringing up the rights of the fishermen, especially retired fishermen, whose rights continue to be violated.
