Morocco: Workers in "SAMIR" Oil Refinery demonstrate and call for re-operating the plant

Last Saturday, workers and trade union labors in "SAMIR" Oil refinery plant organized a protest at company's head office, in Mohammadia city, calling for re-operating the plant after stopping its production since August 2015.

Under the banner of Democratic Labor Confederation (CDT), the protesters have marched through the coastal roads towards Casablanca city. They carried a group of banners accusing the government for keeping silent with solving this file, and they asserted on the necessity of re-operation and reviving of the company.

Protesters gave the blame on the government for keeping "SAMIR" company under one person, who is its president, Sa'ad Ad-Din Al-Othmani, where they affirmed that this file has been under discussion with him, but he claimed that it is up to court now.

Al-Hussein Al-Yamani, head of oil and gas industries at the CDT union, publicly mentioned that the state should intervene to solve such file that has been considered under the legal liquidation by the Commercial Court of Casablanca, he also asserted on the necessity of getting Mohammadia Refinery back to operation, as it represents the power and energy security for Morocco, especially with getting the fuel prices so high.

Workers called for maintaining their rights to work and receive all financial dues included and stated in the collective agreement, particularly the full salaries, the contributions in the retirement funds and the medical coverage. They also called for refinery immediate salvage from closing, immediately resuming the production under all possible formulas, and protecting the interests that the company shall maintain for the national economy and Mohammadia city.
