Casablanca Garbage workers union threatened to be on strike during Al-Adha Feast in protest against the city council, the authorities, and both companies responsible for waste management. The union affiliated with the Moroccan Union of Labor (UMT) announced a two-day strike on August 8 and 9, in protest to the dissatisfaction of the workers of Dersburg’ and ‘Averda’ companies, and not providing them the salaries and bonuses.
Garbage workers have widely criticized Casablanca mayor, Abd Al-Aziz El-Omari, and the local development company, as a result of fired workers file for union trade reasons "which we consider a clear oppression to the fighters of the Moroccan Union of Labor" as stated by them.
The Union of Labor is in protest to the procrastination of the official authorities and keeping silent for calling for any dialogue or serious negotiations regarding the demands of workers in both garbage companies and the city workers put under their administration, despite of keeping doing their garbage work in their city as a national duty.
